Step 6. Erase

As you keep shading and blending, graphite will inevitably creep onto these brighter spots. This step is a reminder that throughout your drawing process, you will also be using your eraser to brighten the edges and other areas of your map where light is hitting the most. This will give your hillshade more realism.

I did not capture this step for the Alaska hillshade, but here is a choppy version of my Everest sketch. Perhaps I will add a new drawing to replace this video.
